Getting my own Custom rule library together of vsti's I use and then tried and tested took years I'd say. I wanted to get my programing to work before laying it out on the table(forum). I wanted to learn, try and test my use of Custom rules before sharing some of my comments and work findings. That's why I haven't said much here about this for months if not years. I'd say it is important in any direction or quest to expand the possibilities and advancement in using Notion. Notion without rules? I'm sorry but IMO it would be easier to paint visually blind.Īnd to not exploit using Custom rules the dollars spent on vsti's only to have to edit data the hard way until cross-eyed? Imagine bouncing from the Notion screen to StudioOne. Not having the use of Notion key-switches and technique's etc.would be sad. In Notion this is obviously done with an array of key-switching, cc and channel-change methods among others that are triggered by the Custom rules. Use to generate and transmit good data that greatly reduces the level of editing needed to make what would be raw static MIDI data on the StudioOne end of the workflow miserably undesirable and slow to work with. Without Custom rules (and a lot of editing) I'd say nearly "machine-gun" sounding note events should be expected.īy using Custom rules Notion will generate the data that technique, articulations and controls The score data (without good rules) has very limited control of vst's via MIDI transmissions.

That I think it is important to explain to those interested that without the use of Custom rules Notion is quite limited by the use of its default generic MIDI rule document in the present ReWire MIDI workflow model. It's getting difficult and confusing for me to explain topics in 5 min. I've found quite a few different ways to expand using Notion lately and that gives me great happiness and a future with hope in using Notion in special ways. The memory allocation is spread out (at least on my system in StudioOne) in a way so that performance does not load down the computer the same way when using separate documents. EVEN THOUGH ALL of the MULTI-DOCUMENT FILES IS LOADED. Now! when recording, editing whatever in each of the "separate" sectional documents (w-TEMPaudio trks) as much as an 75% or more reduction on cpu load can be expected and! believe it or not an drop in overall memory needs. TEMP-audio tracks in Notion as "Attached Audio Files" or in ReWire session tracks, etc.Įach of the separate "Sectional" documents (Notion and StudioOne) turn off or better yet unload vsti's not being edited.

In a multi-document method recorded sectional audio files of an orchestral score - or groupings of instruments- is used as TEMP-audio tracks in other array of multi- document group.īy making these separate Notion documents (-wWinds-, -brass-, perc-, -strings-) and using I'd like to share the idea latter on how I've found "Multi-Document" sessions to work.Ī new thread is a better place.
#Send midi and rewire vst windows#
In the Windows universe, loopMIDI and LoopBe are two popular "virtual MIDI cable" utilities, and even though I do everything on the Mac-hence have zero experience with these Windows utilities-there are forum members who do everything in Windows and recommend these two "virtual MIDI cable" utilities, which is the reason I mention them. I think that in Windows, you would need a third party application to do this, but someone more knowledgeable than me would have to weigh in on this.) On the Mac, this is done by using Audi & MIDI Setup, which is found in Applications>Utilities.

Michaelmyers1 wrote(Note: One setup step that is missing from the video You will have to route MIDI data from Notion to Studio One. As you demonstrated in the YouTube video tutorial, Instrument Tracks will record the MIDI notes, but to record the audio generated by the AU or VSTi virtual instruments hosted in Studio One, you need a matching set of Audio Tracks, as is the case with recording the audio sent from NOTION to Studio One. (2) If you create a corresponding set of Audio Tracks in Studio One, you can record the audio, as well. As you explained, one of the primary functions of ReWire is to keep everything synchronized (audio and MIDI). (1) ReWire is designed to do both audio and MIDI, and in this respect audio and MIDI have equal importance in ReWire. This is an excellent YouTube video tutorial, and I like it. This could be very useful for then either recording the MIDI data, adding automation lanes for MIDI CC Control, adding effects, or recording the audio directly. Michaelmyers1 wroteThis is an informal video to show how I've set up Notion as a Rewire slave to drive MIDI data to tracks in a Studio One Rewire master.
